ELTHAM
MAIN BATHROOM
Transforming a 1970s Eltham mudbrick home was a rewarding project that allowed us to breathe new life into a once-tired bathroom while honoring its original character and charm. The space, which had lost its functionality over the years, was in need of an update to better suit our clients' modern needs. However, our aim was to carefully balance contemporary enhancements with the earthy, natural aesthetic that the homeowners adored.
The homeowners had a clear vision for this renovation, with their primary request being to retain the original brick flooring, a key feature that flows throughout the entire lower level of the home. Initially, the idea of removing the bath to create a more expansive walk-in shower with a built-in bench was on the table. After much consideration, however, they chose to keep the bath – a decision driven by the joy it would bring to their visiting grandkids.
In future-proofing the bathroom, we incorporated Nero tapware and accessories from the care range, ensuring the shower remains accessible and functional for years to come. This not only meets our clients’ current needs but also offers peace of mind for the future, blending style and practicality effortlessly.
The design approach was intentionally pared back, maintaining a harmonious connection with the existing earthy elements of the home. We selected stunning travertine tiles that bring warmth and texture to the space, paired with Nero brushed gold tapware for a touch of refinement. The cappuccino-toned shower floor adds depth and elegance, tying the design together while respecting the home’s natural aesthetic.
Gone are the outdated features that once limited the room’s potential. Instead, this refreshed bathroom embraces modernity without sacrificing its original charm. By thoughtfully integrating new materials and fixtures, we’ve created a beautifully cohesive and serene space that remains true to the unique character of the Eltham mudbrick home.
This transformation exemplifies how careful design choices can breathe new life into an old space, marrying the best of contemporary style with timeless appeal.
